Winnie Holzman and Stephen Schwartz, producers of WICKED, were inspired by the 1995 Gregory Maguire novel "Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West".

This musical has been hailed for its detailed backstory of Oz, giving The Wizard of Oz fans around the world a look into Glinda and Elphaba (aka the Wicked Witch of the West).
