Moulin Rouge – The Musical at San Diego Civic Theatre

During its brainstorming stage, Moulin Rouge! The Musical had to take on the challenge of exceeding or at least being at par with the original film of the same name. With overwhelmingly positive reviews, even critics know that Moulin Rouge! The Musical has ensured that it is here to stay with an impressive turnout each show from viewers all over the world. Broadway World’s Miranda Keating even praised the production after reviewing, stating “Honestly, as as the curtain was pulled back, I was immediately immersed into the beauty of what was designed as 19th century Paris. When the production ended, I originally had no words. I was left speechless by the spectacle.” The musical carries on its performances to date, now available in San Diego and to be produced at San Diego Civic Theatre on Thursday 26th June 2025, San Diego Civic Theatre known as one of the country's favorite theatre venues with creative architecture, sound design, and classy decor both in and out of the venue.

Moulin Rouge's narrative itself is a rollercoaster with extreme emotion following Christian and Satine, an American composer travels to Paris to find out his dream and path in life, and a performer in the Moulin Rouge entertainment venue, respectively. They enter into a forbidden love as they get to know each other, and it is in their affair that they go back and forth as they try to unsuccessfully stop themselves, though their love for each other pushes them on.

In the approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes of the entire musical, this story is presented mostly through song, with stunning musical scoring from the production, which is a mixture of mash-ups, medleys, and even classic tunes. Manchester Media Group stated that the musical is “a musical full of life because of its brilliant cast and crew.” From the colorful opening number up to the last performance, the musical’s intensity shines through; consider the fact that even the cast is composed of singer heavyweights including Aaron Tveit and Karen Olivo performing the title roles of Christian and Satine and you have another Broadway gem on your hands.
