Moulin Rouge – The Musical at San Diego Civic Theatre

Before its debut in 2019, Moulin Rouge! The Musical had to meet high expectations of exceeding or at least being at equal footing with the previous movie created by Baz Luhrmann. The play's plot itself is a rollercoaster with extreme emotion following Christian and Satine, an American composer travels to Montmartre, Paris to look for something to inspire him, and a star entertainer in the Moulin Rouge nightclub, respectively. Christian and Satine fall madly in love as they become more acquainted with each other, and it is in their entanglement that they face challenges that at many times seem insurmountable, though fate continues to bring them closer together.

In the duration of 2 hours and 45 minutes of the whole play, this tale is shared mainly through song and dance, with unsurpassed arrangements from the production crew, which is a combination of mash-ups, medleys, and even classic tunes. Manchester Media Group was quoted that the play is “a musical full of life because of its brilliant cast and crew.” From the 19th century set to the modern pop numbers, the musical’s brilliance shines through; consider the fact that even the cast is composed of singer superstars like Aaron Tveit and Karen Olivo originating the characters of Christian and Satine and you have a worldwide phenomenon on your hands.
