However, things take a turn when the real Duke of Monroth shows up. After discovering what has transpired between the two lovers, he threatens to kill Christian and take back his investment. Satine, who’s also hiding a grave illness, determined to save the Moulin Rouge from financial ruin tells Christian she doesn’t love him.
