The story starts off in Cob County, where an engaged couple named Maizy and Beau are planning their nuptials. However, the wedding comes to a grinding halt when the towns corn suddenly starts to die. The almost newlyweds agree to pause things and join the town in fretting about its crops.
Maizy decides to pursue an explanation in Florida. After she arrives in Tampa, she meets Gordy, who is fronting as a corn doctor. Gordy vows to help her save her towns farm, even though he's only interested in her expensive bracelet to satisfy his mob debts - and drama follows.
