Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman, creators of Wicked, were inspired by the 1995 Gregory Maguire novel "Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West".
This show has been hailed for its detailed backstory of Oz, gifting The Wizard of Oz fans around the globe a peek into Glinda and Elphaba (later known as the Wicked Witch of the West). WICKED, even with the main characters beginning as enemies, it is a profound journey about friendship and acceptance. With epic costume creation and impressive special effects, Wicked guides its audience straight to the wonderful land of Oz!
The musical originally premiered in 2003, thus it is now 21 years old. Since its first performance, Wicked has surpassed $1 BILLION in revenue on Broadway. Only The Lion King & The Phantom of the Opera have accomplished this incredible achievement. WICKED has also dominated theatres outside of Broadway, with achievements in Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami, and London.
