Paying homage to the highly successful early futuristic film created four decades ago, the show blends past, present, and future and is performed skillfully on stage.
Just like the original film, the musical adaptation retells the story of teenager Marty McFly, a curious boy, who journeys back in space and time to a time period unknown to him by way of the misuse of a DeLorean that can time travel. Unfortunately he realizes that traveling back and forth in time has grave consequences, and Marty McFly must strive to ensure that his mom and dad go through the same exact events in the past for Marty to go back to his time period.

On Sunday 19th January 2025, Back To The Future The Musical’s tour brings it to California, for a limited season in San Diego Civic Theatre of San Diego. Part of the most famous entertainment locales of San Diego, San Diego Civic Theatre is a familiar structure that has become a landmark in the district and also holds topnotch amenities up to the expectations of audiences.
The musical adaptation of Back To The Future stages the life of Marty McFly, who has an easygoing and simple life, but is transported to the past to the year 1955 (3 decades earlier) because of accidental time travel. The modern adaptation, which premiered in Manchester back in the year of 2020, is founded on the late 1985 movie with the matching title and also created by the original authors, Bob Gale and Robert Zemeckis.
Given that the 2020 musical was a direct adaptation of the movie's storyline, leading up to the musical’s opening, the standard in place and even fan expectations were thought to be insurmountable. This prompted the producers to seek out the top cast who were available, which resulted in a viral stage adaptation lauded by audiences not just in West End, but also New York and the rest of its global tours.
Back To The Future The Musical has been spearheaded by noted cast members on New York's Broadway including Tony Awardee Roger Bart as Doc Brown, Casey Likes as Marty McFly, and Nominee for the Olivier Awards Hugh Coles as George McFly, along with several seasoned performers of the theater world as stars of the play's company. Complementing the ensemble, known creatives such as Alan Silvestri (Grammy and Emmy Awards winner) and Glen Ballard (consistent Grammy Awards awardee) wrote new and original numbers and lyrics for the show, joining Bob Gale and Robert Zemeckis in producing a wonderful stage musical adaptation.
Because of fresh and modern technical execution, the touring stage adaptation has gained a solid fan base. In its two largest productions, Back To The Future was met with critical acclaim, bagging seven Olivier nominations and prevailing as Best New Musical while also accumulating nominations for Roger Bart's role (Best Featured Actor in a Musical) and Best Scenic Design.
